Email Signup (Footer Section) Setup Guide
This guide explains how to configure the Email Signup section (located in your store’s Footer) — a tool to collect customer email addresses for newsletters, new collection alerts, and product launch updates. It’s a key way to build your subscriber list and nurture customer relationships.
All settings mentioned below can be found in:
Online Store → Themes → Customize → Footer → Email signup

Important: Each email subscription through this form automatically creates a customer account in your Shopify store.

Overall Email Signup Settings
Font size
Slider (default: 100%) that controls the size of all text in the Email Signup section (heading, description, and form labels).
- Adjust between
80% (subtle, fits compact footers) and 120% (prominent, draws attention to the form). - Stick to
90-110% for readability — the Footer is a secondary section, so text shouldn’t overpower main content.
Section spacing
Controls padding above and below the Email Signup section to fit seamlessly within your Footer.
- Top spacing (default:
44 px): Sets the gap between the Email Signup section and the content above it (e.g., Footer links). Increase to 60 px if the section feels cramped. - Bottom spacing (default:
0 px): Typically set to 0 px for Footer sections (aligns with the bottom edge of your store — no extra space needed).
Border Style
Toggles a border around the Email Signup section (applies to the form area and text container).
- No border (default): Clean, minimal look (matches most Footer designs, like the preview).
- Border: Adds a subtle divider to separate the form from other Footer content (use if your Footer has multiple dense sections).
Text Block Settings
Customize the messaging for your email signup (access via the "Text" block in the Email Signup section):
Heading
The title of your email signup form (grabs attention and tells users what to do).
- Use clear, action-oriented language: e.g.,
SIGNUP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER (as in the preview) or JOIN OUR EMAIL LIST. - Uppercase text (as shown) enhances visibility in the Footer (recommended for quick scannability).
- Keep it short (3-4 words) — avoid long, descriptive titles.
Description
Explains the benefit of subscribing (convinces users to share their email).
- Focus on user value: e.g., "Enter your email to be the first to know about new collections and product launches." (highlights exclusivity).
- Add other perks if applicable: e.g., "Get 10% off your first order when you subscribe." (boosts signups).
- Keep it concise (1 short sentence) — Footer space is limited.
Including a small incentive (like a discount) in the Description can double your signup rate!
Email Form Block
The pre-built form element (email input field + "SIGN-UP" button) for collecting addresses:
- No customizable settings available: This block uses your theme’s default form styling (input field size, button design, etc.).
- The form includes:
- An email input field (labeled "Email").
- A "SIGN-UP" button (links to your Shopify customer account/subscriber system).
Always test the form after setup: Enter a test email, submit, and verify you receive a confirmation (and that the subscriber is added to your Shopify customer list).
Best Practices
- Highlight value, not just "sign up": Tell users what they’ll get (exclusive updates, discounts) instead of just asking for their email.
- Keep it simple: The form only needs an email field (extra fields reduce signups).
- Comply with privacy rules: If your store serves regions like the EU (GDPR), add a short note about how you’ll use subscriber data (e.g., "We’ll never share your email — unsubscribe anytime.").
- Match Footer style: Ensure the form’s colors/fonts align with your Footer’s design (use Theme Settings to adjust if needed).
The Footer Email Signup is a low-effort, high-impact tool for growing your subscriber list — focus on clear, value-driven messaging to encourage signups!
